MEND THE BROKEN HEARTS, UGANDA

Serving the community with a heart of Love

The organization runs several projects both within Mbarara district and slightly outside the district.
Among others the organization carries out educational programmes where the training centers targeted to assist orphans and children from weak families.
The organization also carries out agricultural project and counseling services.
The organization started two Nursery schools; one in Kashari and another in the Municipality.
Both of these target children whose parents cannot afford to pay school fees. Others are entirely orphans.
Most of these beneficiaries are sponsored by the organization through funding provided by the organization.
Kashari Nursery has enrollment of 65 children and Kiswahili  Nursery in Mbarara Municipality has 56 children.

02. Arabic coffee and pine patura projects.
The organization established a Nursery bed in Kabutare Ndeija Rwampara and the bed is dominated by two species. Arabic coffee and pine patura ; a forest plant. The former was made following the need for the resident to eradicate poverty. The residents of the area used to grow Robusta coffee, which was later, attacked by coffee wilt disease and it left people totally helpless and indigent. The organization therefore decided to establish a Nursery bed of Arabic coffee to distribute to the helpless families. The people to benefit shall plant this coffee in September.
Pina patura was established in order to enable people plant forests of this species in the empty hills of Rwampara County . Pina patura is a tree specie, which is very expensive in terms of timber.

03. Fish pounds

The organization constructed three small fishponds to produce some fish to distribute to families with malnourished children. Some other fish will be sold off and the little money got will run some activities of the organization.
Nevertheless, the project is still in its infancy stage the seed was put in the ponds in April 2006 the organization experts its first yield after six month

04. Heifer project

The organization has been able to secure three heifers.
Two have young ones and this makes the total number of five.
The organization has a mission of distributing calves to weak families and when they produce their young ones can also be distributed to others in the near future. We intend to make this a revolving fund lent the project is still too small to operate on a reasonably big area.
Secondary, the breed is still too poor to mean sense because the best heifer produces three litters of milk a day, which is not cost effective.

05. Brick making project

The organization started a brick-making project. School dropouts were mobilized and are employed as porters in the project.
Each raw brick is produced at a cost of 100 shillings. When bricks are burnt, then they are sold off and the money got is used to run activities of the organization. Such activities include teachers’ incentives, construction of houses to the needy and the like.

06. A secondary school

The organization has identified a gap for the school dropouts and started a school at Ngara hill in Rwampara where our visitors met several beneficiaries and they had a social morning
The school started 2006 and orphans who are sporsored also dominate it.  The organization sponsors these needy children.

07. Functional adult literacy and capacity building

The organization has in place a program of training old people in reading and writing and languages including English Swahili and French. We also build capacity of our beneficiaries through workshops and seminars. Several people are trained in field of leadership, counseling and guidance, HIV/Aids, poverty, Alcoholism to mention a few. On 19th july2006 around forty participants received certificates of attendance in several disciplines. One of our visitors was the guest of honor.

08. Assistance to families

We at times give assistance to the most needy families but this is rather scanty, due to limited funds.
We have recently built houses to families in Katete ward Mbarara Municipality whose former houses were in dangerous conditions.

09. Skills training

The organization secured some three old computers and we normally render assistance in training some orphan dropouts in the Municipality. We also have decided to start training our children in the Nursery section in computer science. The training center is in the municipality.
We also have a branch in Kabale where our trainer Benjamin has several beneficiaries in fine art and designing since it is his field of specialization. It is through our organization that Benjamin managed to continue with his education. So, he is our fruit.
10. Conclusion.
All these projects are operational but at a low pace.
We request you as our friends to make more friends for us who can possibly give a hand in having some of our projects take off for the good of the miserable families we are trying to help here in Uganda .
